Have you ever played with Legos? If you haven’t, you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who hasn’t at least once. We all start with a base plate, carefully stacking one block at a time. From those tiny pieces, we create magnificent castles, towering bridges, or complex cities.

Life is like a Lego tower, an intricate mosaic of habits, routines, and choices. Each day, we lay down blocks — some bright with hope, others shaded with struggle. Piece by piece, we construct the essence of who we are. If chosen with care, they create beauty and strength. If placed thoughtlessly, they can crumble, leaving behind lessons disguised as failures. But even broken pieces can rebuild a masterpiece.

The Base Plate: Where Every Journey Begins

Just as every Lego creation begins with a sturdy base plate, every great life is built on foundational habits.

James Clear, in his book Atomic Habits, calls this the “anchor habit.” It’s the habit that grounds you, the one you do without thinking — like brushing your teeth in the morning or having a cup of coffee. It’s stable, unshakable. And it’s the perfect place to stack new habits.
